The Lady in Target

Ok, I know that I'm supposed to always be an example of Christ. However, this one lady really had me going. You know what I mean. I'm usually a kind, bubbly, and gentle person. But, this one lady I almost had to fight with her. This is the whole story...

I'd been looking at baby furniture for sweet pea's room and Tony and I have been working hard at creating the perfect little girls room. Not a baby's nursery, but a precious little girls room that she can enjoy and grow into. So, I'd been looking at furniture and found the sweetest bookcase at Target. It's part of the shabby chic collection, maybe you've seen it? But it was a little expensive, so we'd been waiting to purchase it. Finally, the day arrived when we were going to go to buy the beloved bookcase. As I rounded the corner of the furniture section at Target, I saw the little red (it's a gift from God) clearance tag below the bookcase!! My heart jumped for joy and I started praising the Lord in the middle of Target.

So, we race our cart down to the bookcase, only to find that there are no more in boxes. That's ok, I thought. We'll take the display model. How bad can that be? And, then a bonus, my husband doesn't have to put it together. So I waited there with the ONLY bookcase to guard it against walkers by, and sent my loving husband to find a Target worker to help us with the bookcase.

Meanwhile, a Lady, who I will probably never see again, come down our aisle. She mentioned that she has been looking for the dresser that goes with the collection all over the city. She mentioned the nightstand and the desk. But, Never mentioned the bookcase. That's when I pipe in with, "I'm waiting to buy the bookcase". Again, no mention of wanting the bookcase.

Soon, the Target worker comes around the corner with my husband. He confirms that there are no other bookcases in the back and that I can purchase the display model. THIS is when the LADY speaks up (I think she was waiting for the right time to go in for the kill) that she too wants THE BOOKCASE!!! I couldn't believe it. It was MY bookcase and she was going to try to get it right from underneath me. Doesn't she know the law of shopping...first to see it and stand by it gets to buy it? She was definitely untrustworthy and something needed to be done immediately. That's when I spoke up. This voice from I don't know where started and I couldn't stop it. I was helpless.

I said, "Lady, I was here FIRST, and this is for MY BABY'S room. I'll FIGHT you for it." My husband, thinking things were quickly spiraling out of control, gives me the gentle hand signal that says, "calm down, it will be OK" To which I respond, "She'll have a crying pregnant lady on her hands. That's my bookcase." The target guy looks at my husband for support, and says that I can have the display model. All's well, right? WRONG!!!

That's when the manager comes over the walkie talkie and informs us all that I CANNOT have the display model. Something about it not being put together all the way, and being dangerous, and having to send it back to the manufacturers... I don't know. All I know is that I went from pure joy, to fighting mad, to tears in about 3 minutes (Did I mention I'm PREGNANT? )

So, again the target guy looks at my husband and trys to fix the mess that he's in. He says that he's going to check all the other Target's in the area for this bookcase, and leaves the other lady in the dust. To her defense, she did say that she wasn't trying to take MY bookcase, she just wanted to know if there were others in the area.

Soon he came back with a whole list of Targets to try. We called the closest one, and sure enough they had ONE left. So, they held it for me (Praise the Lord, again!) and when we got there we decided to buy the dresser too!! After all, they were on clearance!!!

I'm not sure if the other lady ever found her bookcase...

I'm popping over from Alana's blog...

Oh, the joys of pregnancy hormones. We lost our cat when I was eight months pregnant. You can't imagine the blubbering!

I would have felt the same way, pregnant or not! Shopping at Target is a competitive sport!

So happy for you that you found both the bookcase and dresser on clearance!
